Amazonia Impact Ventures (AIV) announces the first investor in a new series of commitments to the Amazonia Impact Fund I
Today, we highlight the participation of Trimtab, an “unapologetically” impact‑first financial institution. Built by and for a growing community of asset owners who believe that capital can create value rather than simply extract it, Trimtab explores what is possible on the frontier of impact finance.
Trimtab is a multi-asset class, impact-first vehicle, deploying capital across geographies into fund managers and entrepreneurs working closest to the problems they aim to solve. Its investment in AIV fits its strategy of activating markets that conventional finance struggles to reach and strengthening local economies.
The ecosystem AIV partners with (cooperatives, middle-chain actors and ethical buyers) has historically been excluded from formal finance. Many are receiving external capital for the first time, while others are seeking to build the track record required to move upstream into more commercial markets.
Trimtab’s commitment, structured across catalytic and senior tranches, signals confidence in the financing viability of the Amazonian bioeconomy with particular focus on Indigenous Peoples in the Amazon. Around 32% of AIV’s portfolio comprises Indigenous farmers.
Inside the impact framework agreed as part of the investment, Trimtab will also provide capital for an experimental partnership with Ajua, a mobile survey platform, to gather direct feedback from cooperative members and assess how finance affects livelihoods.
“Being able to qualify for this investment speaks to the strength of our strategy for impact capital in the Amazon's bioeconomy,” said our Co-Founder and Investment Director, Pajani Singah.
Trimtab, now an independent entity, was incubated by The ImPact, a community of nearly 100 family offices committed to aligning their assets with their values. From forest finance to Indigenous‑led enterprises, the focus is on models that can scale and be replicated.
“Amazonia is a perfect representation of the ‘Activating Hardest to Reach markets’ archetype for impact-first capital. A fund manager who is deeply embedded in the communities it serves, with the expertise and integrity to prove that investment and market development in those communities is not only possible, but it can lead to transformative impacts on farmer’s livelihoods,” said Trimtab Director of Impact, Sarah Freeman.
This announcement marks the first in a three‑part series introducing new investors joining the Amazonia Impact Fund I. In the coming days, we will profile additional commitments and the strategic roles each investor will play in expanding access to finance across the forest’s value chains.
