Today, 3rd March, we join the global community in celebrating World Wildlife Day (#WWD2025), a day dedicated to raising awareness of the world’s wild fauna and flora.
We also celebrate the success at #COP16Resumed, as governments agreed on the strategy to raise the funds needed to protect biodiversity and achieve the action targets of the Global Biodiversity Framework #KMGBF – private finance being the key piece of the puzzle.
At Amazonia Impact Ventures (AIV), we are committed to protecting the rich biodiversity of the Amazon rainforest and fighting climate change through impact finance and nature-based solutions.
According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the Amazon Rainforest is home to an astonishing 10% of all known wildlife species on Earth. This ecosystem plays a crucial role in regulating the global climate by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen.
In the last five years, however, the Amazon region has lost a staggering 23.7 million hectares of forest. This is an area almost as large as the entire UK. These findings are from a study published by the Amazon Network of Georeferenced Socio-Environmental Information (RAISG).
Focus on the mission
Our mission is to help local communities through impact finance to access better livelihoods while looking after the preservation of biodiversity. By establishing long-term partnerships with forest people, we support them in cultivating responsibly grown goods in agroforestry systems.
When receiving our capital, they can access new markets and obtain technical assistance from us to avoid deforestation and protect the local wildlife. One of our Peruvian partners is doing an excellent job of monitoring key species of animals in their Brazil Nut concessions.
RONAP has been receiving our investment since 2022. By electronically monitoring the movement of animals in the forest, they can assess the health of the fauna in the area.
To date, the RONAP monitoring team has registered 421 sightings of different species using camera traps spread throughout the reserve. The sensors activate in response to any movement, providing updated images of the animals living in the Madre De Dios region of Peru.
Take a look at this amazing video, where you can see a beautiful jaguar recognising the camera and coming to say hello!
Happy World Wildlife Day!
