In a region where the urgency to protect biodiversity encounters a $20 billion financing shortfall for smallholder farmers (according to the ISF Advisors’ Rural and Agriculture Report), Amazonia Impact Ventures (AIV) is writing a new chapter in Latin America’s sustainable development.
AIV has now deployed $10 million into the Amazonian bioeconomy. Since 2020, it has financed enterprises that support forest conservation, empower indigenous communities, promote gender equality, and strengthen resilient agribusinesses.
AIV has increased the portfolio year on year, making $263k of loans in 2020 and growing to USD$2.11 million by 2023. 2025 has set a new record, with $2.79 million disbursed across eight enterprises to date.
Measuring Success
“We have validated our operating model over the last five years, and are now attracting fresh capital to expand our impact in communities that previously lacked access to finance,” detailed our CFO, Lucy Singah.
Since 2020, AIV has channelled funds into 17 distinct projects through more than 45 loans. Reaching the $10 million milestone has improved the livelihoods of over 4,000 producers, 36% of whom are women and 32% Indigenous.
These cumulative disbursements have incentivised better practices in more than 200,000 hectares of forest and farmland, contributing directly to rainforest biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation.
“We are immensely grateful to our investors and partners for helping us reach this point,” adds Singah. “We look forward to deploying even more capital to the Global South.”
