The Forest Assessment 2025 report brings essential data for the 2030 focus

Global forests are still in crisis… … And the data shows precisely where ambition must rise. The Forest Declaration Assessment 2025 highlights urgent gaps and opportunities across four fronts:

  • Forest integrity: In 2024, 8.1 million hectares of forest were permanently lost, a level of destruction 63% higher than the trajectory needed to halt deforestation by 2030.

  • Finance: International public forest finance tripled to USD 5.7 billion annually (2022–24), but only half of pledged forest finance has been delivered, leaving communities and ecosystems dangerously underfunded. To meet 2030 goals, investments into nature-based solutions must almost triple, biodiversity finance must increase fivefold, and private capital must finally step up.

  • Restoration: Active restoration covers 10.6 million hectares, from agroforestry to natural regeneration. Regenerative models are proving viable pathways, yet scale remains modest compared to global needs.

  • Livelihoods & Governance: Forests provide income and security for over one billion people, yet tenure insecurity, weak enforcement, and limited women’s participation undermine resilience. Estimates suggest 61–94% of tropical deforestation for agriculture is illegal, tying livelihoods to systemic risks. Inclusive governance is also essential.

At Amazonia Impact Ventures (AIV), we see these findings as a roadmap: align capital with forest‑positive enterprises, scale bioeconomy solutions, and empower Indigenous and local communities whose livelihoods depend on standing forests. The halfway point to 2030 demands systemic shifts — finance, governance, and markets working in the same direction.
